Your Life, Your Wishes. Advance Care Planning Workshop
April 23 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pmFree
Thinking about and planning for the end of your life can be a daunting task. We procrastinate and think, “It’s too soon! I’m still healthy!” until it’s too late. But don’t panic. Help is all around you, and it begins by exploring some circumstances where you may not be able to speak for yourself. How will you document your wishes? Who do you want to speak for you? How can you assure that these documents and this person will be available when the time comes?
Workshop leader Velda Filzen, RN, is an expert in this area. She has led thousands of people to a greater understanding of end-of-life issues in both Washington and Oregon. As a former palliative care nurse, Velda has witnessed first-hand the real life scenarios where patients and their families were well-prepared, ill-prepared, or seeking advice in advance of declining health.
Whatever stage you are at in your thinking and planning, this workshop will help you take the next steps. We’ll walk through the Oregon Advance Directive and the POLST (Physician Order for Life Sustaining Treatment) form. You’ll learn more about hospice and palliative care, how to start the conversation with your family about your wishes, and have your most pressing questions addressed.
Light supper will be provided. This program is free and open to the public; bring a friend! RSVPs required for planning food, beverage, seating, and parking.
